Snow Jackpot

Well, we have been talking about ice and snow for a while now, and this week we finally hit the jackpot. What a great snowy week!

We came back from our Monday snow day to Tuesday's perfect snow day at school, where we built and colored an amazing fort.

We also went inside, had circle and snack, read some stories, and then geared up again and spent the rest of the day sledding!

On Wednesday we built again, had an outdoor circle time, and then went inside to warm up and have snack. We read The Big Snow, reviewing forest animal strategies for surviving the winter, and then we made some edible to wildlife snow decorations out of rye, which we hung up in the trees outside just as the next storm began to hit.

We went sledding again as perfect, fat flakes fell down on us.

On Thursday we had a blustery and slushy day. We had morning circle time inside, then we went outside to roast hot dogs and apples over the fire.

We also reviewed what we know about snow by reading Flakes and Flurries, a nonfiction book about snow. Then we made snow paintings with sparkly, puffy paint.

We have got some folks who are so interested in numbers, letters and words lately, and Grandma Bonnie has been coming up with some great number and literacy games. This week we found some letters hidden in the snow, and we named them and sorted them in some different ways, and were even able to spell some of our names with them. It was exciting! We’ll find some more next week.

It was a wonderful snowy week!

Next week tuition and aftercare invoices will go out for February.

Thanks to all of you that have re-enrolled for next year. Enrollment will open up to new families on Wednesday. There are only 4 spaces to fill and I think that they will go fast.

Next week we will be talking about mountains, and then on Thursday we plan to go to SVTFarm in Wells to celebrate the midwinter turn toward spring and see the new baby animals. We may also be able to visit with Red Fox classes in the woods to celebrate The Deep Awakening, as we are calling this midwinter point. The gathering is weather dependent though, so we'll see.
