Seeds on the Move
Originally published October 8th, 2022
Hello everyone,
We had some really sweet weather in the forest this week! On Monday we read Seeds Move! and talked about methods of seed dispersal. We are seeing first hand how many seeds are moving around these days just through our explorations and play outside. Milkweed is a favorite to many of us! And of course exploding jewelweed, know to us as “touchy pops.”
We also made some goldenrod seed bombs that we flung into the pollinator meadow at school. On Tuesday we read The Tiny Seed by Eric Carle, which tells the story of the seed, flower, seed cycle through the life of one tiny, wind dispersed seed. After we read the book we acted the story out together, which was very fun. On Wednesday we went to the forest again and read A Seed is Sleepy, a gorgeous book of beautifully illustrated seeds. We talked about our favorite seeds that we know, and then made seed design pictures with glue and birdseed.
On Thursday we had a wonderful trip to the orchard. Wow, what a beautiful day we had! Thank you to so many of you for coming along It was a very sweet ending to our seeds and fruits unit indeed to spend the day with all things apple in the golden October sunshine.
After the trip some of us made apple print paintings.
Next week we will be talking about 🍁
