Friends

Hello everyone,

I wanted to send out some photos and info out about our last couple of weeks talking about friends and friendship This is always such a sweet learning unit to do with this age group. Friends and playing together and learning what friends are all about is so exciting and interesting to them, and their thoughts and feelings on the matter are so pure.

We have read a number of really fun books on friendship and had so many good discussions. We read Leonardo the Terrible Monster and talked about what makes a friend. We read The Rabbit Listened, and talked about how to be a friend. We read A Sick Day for Amos McGee, and talked about reciprocity. We read Strictly No Elephants and talked about inclusion. We read Love Monster and the Last Chocolate and talked about the importance of listening to our conscience and thinking of others. We read The Crown on Your Head, and talked about the importance of loving yourself and being a friend to yourself. We played lots of fun cooperative games, made chocolates and cookies to share, we made some beautiful art;

and the children made this lovely list of what a friend is:

Someone you really like and love

You hold hands and you play together

You share toys with your sister (who can be a friend too)

Someone who shares your tablet and toys

Someone who visits you

Someone who we sometimes cry with

Someone you do things with

Someone that we play in the sandbox with and we are nice and kind

Someone that we are nice to

Hitting and hurting is not friendly but hugging it

Sometimes we share toys

Friends listen to each other (but we all always have to listen to each other, even not friends too)

Someone that you learn things with
